MyGate is lending its online payments expertise to the South African National Parks (SANParks) Adopt a Rhino Campaign.

The campaign allows members of the public to adopt a rhino and make payment directly through the SANParks online adoption portal. This ensures that all funds go directly to SANParks and their rhino conservation initiatives aimed at fighting rhino poaching.

MyGate acknowledges that rhino poaching is a huge problem and feels that the SANParks anti-poaching online adoption initiative is the best way to help these great animals.

Last year over a thousand rhinos were poached in South Africa, putting the future survival of the species at great risk. With only 17 000 rhinos remaining in the whole of Africa, if something is not done to stop poaching, the entire species will soon be extinct.

SANParks is the custodian of 80% of Africa’s rhino and home to 91% of the world rhino population. However, very little revenue from existing independent fundraising efforts has been channelled to SANParks for the prevention of rhino poaching. Only campaigns bearing the approved seal of participation are officially endorsed by SANParks.

Speaking for MyGate, Glen Ross said, “SANParks is doing great work to try and alleviate this problem with rangers that work tirelessly and in very dangerous conditions in order to stop poachers.”
